In the 80s of the twentieth century, some American breeders began to select the puppies with the longest fur that were frequently born from Russian Blue litters. At the fall of the U.S.S.R. it was discovered that in Russia too they had been bred for a long time. Today many long-haired specimens are imported from Russia. The Nebelung standard is the same as the Russian Blue, except for the parameters related to the coat.
Elegant cat, has a coat with semi-long gray-blue hair and bright green eyes. It is a very calm and affectionate breed.

They have a calm, sweet and affectionate character both with their own kind and with man. Typical apartment cat, loves comfort and spends a long time lying in the same place, preferably in the arms of a family member. The one who chooses, from all the members of the family, his point of reference, following him like a shadow, with a unique love. They detest confusion and noise and are not suitable for young children. They easily adapt to living with other cats or dogs. They have a soft, soft voice and rarely meow. Very shy with strangers, they withdraw when a visitor arrives and do not appreciate the cuddles of strangers.
The delicate coat should be brushed weekly with a soft brush. The ears must be cleaned only if necessary with a specific product. The nails can be blunted with special scissors
Variety of color
The blue coat must be as homogeneous as possible and must be free of white hair and shades of other colors; gray nose and paw pads; green eyes.

Medium build; the average weight of males is 3.5-4.8 kg, that of females 2.5-3.5 kg; long, elegant and well-proportioned body. The neck is long and powerful.
Limbs: long, thin, with small and oval legs.
Tail: long, straight, which tapers at the end.
Head: broad, somewhat elongated but never too long; well-marked chin and salient cheekbones.
Ears: straight, relatively large and pointed; the interior of the pavilions is almost totally hairless.
Nose: medium length, without stop; gray like lips.
Eyes: almond shaped, well spaced; emerald green (from puppies they are dark blue).
Coat: semi-long, fine and very soft coat.
In recent years, a long-haired variety (Nebelung breed) has also been selected.
Defects: presence of white hairs and shades of other colors; yellowish traces of green in the eyes.
